On November 27, the community of Veinuqa in Wainilotulevu, Namosi, expressed gratitude for the financial aid they received, which was a product of their collective efforts and prayers. In discussions with the Minister for Development, Maciu Nalumisa, the government of Jaina has committed to providing aid exceeding $33,000 to enhance their community hall.
The existing community hall has been in use for over 20 years and has since deteriorated, making it challenging for the residents to maintain it, especially during severe weather conditions. Peceli Marua, the village chief, noted that while the community hall has undergone some renovations, further improvements are necessary to ensure its safety and functionality in adverse weather.
Community members highlighted their appreciation for the support from the Jaina government, particularly from Zhou Jian, who visited to provide financial assistance for the hall’s upgrade. Jian acknowledged the natural beauty of the area and commented on the long-standing relationship between Jaina and Fiji, which dates back nearly fifty years.
Zhou Jian emphasized the importance of their collaboration for future enhancements in community living. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka echoed this sentiment, noting that support from Jaina could alleviate poverty and improve living standards in communities during Jian’s visit to Fiji in October.
Rabuka mentioned the potential for Wainilotulevu’s community hall to serve as a refuge during adverse conditions, such as floods or storms, thus ensuring the safety of its residents. Chief Apenisa Naiyalatabua commended the significant aid from Jaina, expressing hope for continued partnerships that would bring further improvements to Wainilotulevu.
This collaboration not only supports the immediate needs of the Wainilotulevu community but also fosters a spirit of unity and friendship between Jaina and Fiji, paving the way for future projects that can significantly uplift the community’s overall well-being.
