The iTaukei Land and Fisheries Commission (TLFC) review team is preparing to present its final report to the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs shortly, as announced by Minister Ifereimi Vasu.
During a recent session in Parliament, Mr. Vasu explained that the review process commenced in September and was guided by a strategic advisory group, which played a significant role in directing and supporting the initiative. Over the course of this review, the team engaged in consultations across 14 provinces and held discussions with various focus groups. Additionally, they organized virtual meetings to incorporate feedback from the iTaukei diaspora living abroad.
Mr. Vasu mentioned that the review team also briefed the Great Council of Chiefs during their most recent meeting and that they are currently in the report compilation phase. He added that a discussion regarding the report with the strategic advisory group is scheduled for the 20th, following which the report will be officially submitted to the ministry.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the iTaukei Land and Fisheries Commission to inclusively gather diverse perspectives from the community both locally and abroad, ensuring that the final report reflects a comprehensive understanding of the land and fisheries issues at hand. The collaboration with various stakeholders aims to foster a more sustainable and culturally relevant management approach for iTaukei resources.
In a hopeful outlook, the active participation of the community and the diaspora is expected to yield constructive ideas that could lead to effective policies benefiting the iTaukei people, ultimately enhancing their connection to their land and natural resources.
