Former LA Galaxy player Israel Sesay has returned to Fiji to participate in an international development program designed to nurture young football talent. The initiative, organized by Riyaz Ali, the founder of the International Youth Football Academy (IYFA), brings professional players from the U.S. to conduct training sessions for local youth.
Sesay, recognized as one of the youngest recruits in LA Galaxy’s history and having played alongside football legend David Beckham, will be in Fiji for two weeks, focusing on enhancing the skills and tactics of aspiring young players.
Ali shared that his connection with Sesay began during the player’s visit to Fiji in 2013, and their mutual commitment to developing football talent has led to this partnership. The objective is to identify local talent and create pathways for them to compete on the international stage.
“When Ali asked me to come and help out with the kids, it was a no-brainer for me. I love doing what I do because I’m trying to pass on my knowledge, what I’ve learned playing professionally and from all these big coaches, and help these kids grow,” Sesay commented.
With Sesay’s guidance, the program is expected to significantly enhance the abilities of Fijian youth, potentially opening doors for them to pursue careers in professional football.
