Is Intimidation Evolving in Fijian Politics?

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has confirmed that he met with Francis Puleiwai, the acting deputy commissioner of FICAC, to inquire if there were any reports filed against him. He stated that this meeting did not constitute interference or intimidation.

Public perception, however, raises questions about the nature of intimidation in the political landscape. There’s a comparison to former Prime Minister Bainimarama, who dealt with senior officials and attended court proceedings while dressed in full military uniform, which was seen as a clear act of intimidation.

The recent claims made by Puleiwai in her interview suggest that the nature of intimidation in the post-Bainimarama era may have become more subtle.
