The investigation into the boxing incident that resulted in the death of Ubayd Haider is expected to conclude this week, as confirmed by Edwin Wainiqolo, the chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry. In an interview, Wainiqolo stated that only one individual, former South Pacific Boxing Promotion promoter Fredy Chand, remains to be interviewed.
Wainiqolo shared that they have already conducted interviews with Mohammed Shameem. He expressed gratitude towards Chand, who has willingly agreed to assist in the investigation, although scheduling has been challenging due to the time difference, as Chand resides overseas.
Once the investigation is finalized, the findings will be submitted directly to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru. Wainiqolo indicated that if further clarification regarding the findings is necessary, a press conference will be held to address any outstanding issues.
This investigation represents a significant step in ensuring accountability and transparency within the boxing community, especially following such a tragic incident. The willingness of individuals like Chand to cooperate illustrates a collective effort towards understanding the circumstances that led to the unfortunate outcome.
In summary, as the inquiry approaches its conclusion, it highlights the importance of thorough investigations in sports, underscoring a commitment to safety and regulatory adherence in the industry.
