The investigation into the recent boxing incident, which resulted in the tragic passing of Ubayd Haider, is expected to conclude this week, according to Edwin Wainiqolo, the chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry. In a recent interview, Wainiqolo stated that the inquiry is in its final stages, with only one individual, former promoter Fredy Chand, left to be interviewed.
Wainiqolo mentioned that they have already completed the questioning of Mohammed Shameem and expressed gratitude to Chand for voluntarily agreeing to participate in the investigation. Due to a time difference, the scheduled interview with Chand had to be postponed, as he currently resides overseas.
Once the investigation wraps up, the findings will be reported to Jese Saukuru, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Wainiqolo indicated that if any further clarifications regarding the findings are necessary, a press conference would be held to address those issues comprehensively.
This investigation represents a crucial step towards understanding the events surrounding the boxing incident and demonstrates a commitment to accountability and transparency in the sport. By prioritizing the completion of this inquiry, the involved parties are not only honoring the memory of Ubayd Haider but also working towards the improvement of safety standards in boxing.
This ongoing investigation and the high-level commitment to transparency and accountability highlight a proactive approach to sports governance in the region.
