The investigation into the boxing incident that led to the tragic passing of Ubayd Haider is set to conclude this week, according to Edwin Wainiqolo, the chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry. During a recent interview, Wainiqolo explained that Fredy Chand, the former promoter of South Pacific Boxing Promotion, is the last individual to be questioned in the inquiry.
Wainiqolo noted that while Mohammed Shameem has already provided testimony, Chand has graciously volunteered to assist with the investigation and is forthcoming about his availability for questioning, although scheduling challenges have arisen due to his residence overseas.
The investigation’s findings will be submitted directly to Jese Saukuru, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Wainiqolo emphasized that a press conference will be organized if further clarification on the findings is required, ensuring transparency regarding the issues addressed.
This investigation reflects a commitment to clarity and justice in the boxing community, highlighting the importance of thoroughness in addressing such sensitive matters. It is hopeful that the findings can lead to improved practices and safety measures in sports, ensuring that tragic incidents become a catalyst for positive change in the future.
