Introducing Fiji’s New World Bank Game-Changer

Stefano Mocci, former World Bank country manager for the South Pacific, has been appointed as the World Bank Group country manager for Fiji, the World Bank announced this week.

This newly established position grants Fiji a dedicated point of contact to access the full range of World Bank Group products and services. The move aims to enhance the institution’s ability to tackle global challenges and drive development swiftly and effectively.

“We are committed to this new and unified leadership approach that will enable us to better support the country’s public and private sectors to better serve the people of Fiji,” said Mr. Mocci.

“Unified bank group leadership will improve our speed and make us a better partner to the government, the private sector, and ultimately the people we serve.”

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Mocci held several roles within the World Bank Group, most recently serving as World Bank Country Manager for the South Pacific and World Bank Country Manager for Papua New Guinea.

He has also worked in field-based positions in middle-income countries and fragile, conflict-affected states. His roles included Senior Country Officer and Senior Operations Officer in the Middle East and North Africa Region, where he managed the delivery of the World Bank’s programs and maintained close relationships with national authorities and key stakeholders in West Bank and Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.

Before joining the World Bank Group in 2000, Mr. Mocci worked as a Governance Program Officer at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Mr. Mocci will continue to serve as World Bank Country Manager for other South Pacific countries, including Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Nauru.
