Intimidation in Fiji: Has it Evolved Since Bainimarama?

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has confirmed that he met with Francis Puleiwai, the acting deputy commissioner of FICAC, to inquire whether any report had been filed against him. He emphasized that this meeting was not intended to interfere or intimidate.

However, it raises questions about public perception. Reflecting on past instances, there were notable occurrences where former Prime Minister Bainimarama visited ministers and other high-ranking officials, even attending court in military attire, which many viewed as overt intimidation.

This situation prompts a discussion on whether intimidation tactics in the current political landscape have become more subtle, as suggested by Puleiwai’s recent comments during an ABC interview.
