APOROSA Rokowaqa, brother of the late CRW soldier Lagani Rokowaqa, delivered a poignant message to senior officers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces during the 24th anniversary of the Queen Elizabeth Barracks attempted mutiny and the accompanying reconciliation and restoration program. He underscored the importance of leading with dignity and integrity, emphasizing that meaningful change within the military must start from the senior ranks.
In his address, Mr. Rokowaqa referenced Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, urging the officers to uphold their responsibilities to God and their duty to the nation. He implored them to rise above personal greed and selfishness, highlighting the need to prioritize the well-being of Fiji and future generations.
Additionally, Mr. Rokowaqa expressed his family’s desire for forgiveness from the RFMF, acknowledging his brother’s involvement in the 2000 mutiny. He conveyed the pain and challenges that Lagani’s family endured during a time of turmoil, recalling that Lagani had a young daughter and a pregnant wife at the time of the incident. The family’s ongoing grief was palpable, but the recent event provided a sense of relief and an opportunity for healing.
This poignant instance of remembrance and reconciliation serves not only to honor the past but also promises a more collaborative and understanding future for the military and its communities. The commitment shown by the Rokowaqa family to seek forgiveness and emphasize integrity is a hopeful step towards mending relationships and fostering a stronger national identity.
Thus, through these reflections, we can look forward with optimism as the Republic of Fiji Military Forces strives for a path of integrity and unity.
