Maraia Marama Vadei, a dedicated mother of three, has recently achieved a significant milestone by being admitted to the bar, and she hopes to inspire young and single mothers to chase their dreams through education.

At just 28 years old, Vadei hails from Lomaiviti and has strong family ties to Burebasaga, Rewa. She has made history as the first lawyer in her family, a testament to her determination to balance work, family, and studies effectively.

Vadei emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning and seizing opportunities for personal growth. Her educational journey began at Nasinu Gospel Primary School and continued through Assemblies of God Primary School. She completed her secondary education at Assemblies of God High School and Rishikul Sanatan College, both in Nasinu.

While pursuing a foundation program in social studies at Fiji National University, she found inspiration from a lecturer who encouraged her to explore law. Despite her background in agricultural science, she faced the rigorous demands of legal studies with resilience.

Vadei recounts facing various challenges, particularly when her father lost his job due to COVID-19 restrictions. To support her family and fund her education, she worked part-time at supermarkets and a cafeteria near her school. Vadei attributes her success to the unwavering support of her husband, both families, and her extended family.

Reflecting on her journey, she shares, “To be honest, I didn’t think I’d be a lawyer. I wanted to be a veterinarian, but it seems that was not God’s plan for me.” She expresses her gratitude for the blessings she has received, stating, “With God by your side, you can achieve anything in life.”

Vadei’s story exemplifies the power of perseverance and support from family, and serves as a beacon of hope for others embarking on their educational paths. It highlights that despite challenges, it is possible to triumph and fulfill one’s aspirations.

This uplifting narrative encourages others, particularly mothers, to believe in their potential and continue pursuing their dreams, no matter the obstacles they may face.
