The Fiji Corrections Service has announced that two inmates who participated in hunger strikes at the Maximum Security Corrections Facility last week have returned to consuming regular meals.
According to a statement from the FCS, a medical team assessed the inmates to ensure they were in stable physical condition following their protest. The agency emphasized that the inmates’ well-being is a priority, and measures are in place to monitor their recovery closely.
The FCS is dedicated to its fundamental mission of ensuring safe, secure, and humane treatment for all offenders under its care. This commitment includes prioritizing the physical and mental health of all inmates by providing regular medical evaluations and continuous access to healthcare services.
“We value the ongoing support from the public and stakeholders regarding the rehabilitation and management of offenders, and we reaffirm our commitment to maintaining high standards of care and safety across all our facilities,” the statement added.
