India and Fiji: A Bond Beyond Borders

The Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Palaniswamy Karthigeyan, has highlighted the significant political exchanges and engagements between Fiji and India, which have contributed to the strengthening of their ties across various sectors. Speaking at the celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, he expressed pride in India’s friendship with Fiji.

Karthigeyan noted that the relationship is founded on mutual respect, trust, and strong people-to-people connections, emphasizing the steady growth of these ties. He pointed out a remarkable increase in high-level political exchanges over the past 18 to 19 months, which he described as setting a strong course for their engagement and enhancing foreign relations.

He underlined India’s role as a key development partner for Fiji, contributing to the nation’s socio-economic progress. The High Commissioner expressed pride in representing India and pointed out the enormous potential for collaboration in various fields.

Karthigeyan also mentioned that, as developing countries, both Fiji and India face similar challenges and share aspirations. He referred to their relationship as ideal and natural, reiterating a strong commitment to working together for the benefit of citizens in both nations. He extended this message to friends in Fiji and in other countries represented by the mission, including Kiribati, Tonga, and Tuvalu.
