The Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, announced that the Review Team responsible for examining the i-Taukei Affairs Act is on track to complete its work and submit its report by the end of this month.
Vasu explained that the primary goals of the review are to promote economic employment opportunities for the i-Taukei people and to enhance Vanua governance. During a session addressing questions about the review’s progress, he noted that the efforts of the review team are guided by the Strategic Advisory Group (SAG).
The review process is structured into five phases, with the team providing updates to the SAG at the conclusion of each phase. Vasu highlighted the extensive outreach conducted by the review team, which included consultations with religious organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community service organizations (CSOs), university students, i-Taukei institutions, various stakeholders, women’s groups, statutory bodies, provincial councils, and the general public.
“The Review Team has gathered insights from diverse segments of the community. Feedback from Fijians has shown support for the continuation of i-Taukei administration, while emphasizing the need for a fundamental shift in its operational approach,” Vasu stated. He also noted that it is crucial for the administration to address emerging issues that impact today’s developmental agenda.
