Police are continuing their search for one of the two men alleged to have robbed a 57-year-old woman and her disabled son. Mosese Vuniwai and Jashneel Pillay face charges of aggravated robbery in connection with an incident that took place on January 22 of last year.
According to reports, the two men, along with a third accomplice who has already pleaded guilty and received a sentence, entered the victims’ bedroom while they were sleeping around midnight. One of the assailants reportedly covered the woman’s mouth with one hand while holding a cane knife to her neck, preventing her from calling for help. Meanwhile, the other two individuals searched the house for valuables.
The trio attempted to escape in a getaway vehicle but were quickly apprehended by law enforcement. Vuniwai appeared in court yesterday before Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu for a judgment, but the decision was not reached. A bench warrant for Pillay was also extended due to his unknown whereabouts.
DPP lawyer Pooja Mishra stated that the state is collaborating with police to locate Pillay. The case has been postponed until November 25. Co-accused Joseva Tuidama previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years and four months in prison, with a non-parole period of four years, on November 10 of last year.
