Reflecting on the journey of the Hospitality, Tourism, and Equipment Conference, or HOTEC, it is exciting to see the significant progress made over the years. When this tradeshow originally launched, the vision was to create a platform where tourism suppliers could connect directly with hotel properties and hospitality professionals, all in one location.

As we approach 2024, HOTEC has developed into a remarkable event, elevating the tiny South Pacific dot into a globally recognized brand and a coveted travel destination. HOTEC is not just an event; it is a celebration of the tourism industry, providing a forum to share ideas that will influence the future of tourism in Fiji and the broader South Pacific region.

The conference has grown to include a wider range of exhibitors and products, along with a diverse program of informative sessions and competitions aimed at showcasing local talent and addressing training and upskilling challenges. Whether you are a hotelier, hospitality professional, supplier, or tourism enthusiast, participating in HOTEC 24 promises to offer valuable insights into the industry’s future.

The festivities begin on Day Zero, October 23, with the HOTEC Welcome Networking Cocktail, hosted by the ACT and NSW governments alongside Pacific Trade Invest Australia. This event serves as an opportunity to network over cocktails featuring Australia’s best food and beverages, enabling connections with new suppliers and industry peers.

Day One, October 24, marks the official opening of HOTEC with the Chief Guest, the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka. Activities will include the popular HOTEC Barista Competition Finals, showcasing local coffee talent and celebrating the skill behind every cup.

The first information session, “Thriving and Inclusive Communities,” will take place from 10:30 am to 12 pm, focusing on compliant work conditions and local employment opportunities. This is a vital aspect of sustainable tourism and will feature insights from successful local business ventures.

In the afternoon, from 2 pm to 3:30 pm, “Prosperous Visitor Economy,” sponsored by PTI Australia, will discuss taxation responsibilities and leveraging digital tools for business success. The session aims to highlight the positive impact of local purchasing on businesses.

The day concludes with the HOTEC Networking Cocktail hosted by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, providing another chance to connect and share ideas in an informal setting.

Day Two, October 25, will feature the finals of the HOTEC Chef and Cocktail competition, where top chefs and mixologists compete. In the morning, “Healthy Islands and Oceans,” sponsored by Palmex International, will cover resource management and environmental sustainability in tourism.

In the afternoon, “Visible and Valued Cultures” will address the respectful management of visits to cultural sites and indigenous communities, emphasizing the importance of understanding land and property rights.

The conference will culminate with the HOTEC Gala Awards Night hosted by Austrade and Trade Investment Queensland, celebrating industry excellence and shared achievements.

These highlights are just a glimpse of what attendees can expect from HOTEC 2024, with more details available on the FHTA website. This event is a prime opportunity to engage with industry leaders, exhibitors, and government representatives, fostering partnerships that drive growth.
