HOTEC 2024: Elevating Fiji’s Tourism Industry to New Heights

The Hospitality, Tourism, and Equipment Conference, known as HOTEC, has come a long way since its inception. Initially, the goal was to create a space where suppliers from the tourism sector could directly engage with hotel properties and hospitality professionals in one location. The challenge of adapting to industry trends, boosting productivity, cutting costs, and introducing internationally recognized products to a remote area in the South Pacific was significant.

Fast forward to 2024, and HOTEC has transformed into an extraordinary event. The previously small “dot” in the ocean has become a globally recognized brand, attracting visitors who prioritize it on their travel wish lists. HOTEC is not merely an event; it represents a celebration of the tourism industry and a collaborative platform for sharing ideas that will shape the future of tourism in Fiji and the South Pacific.

The conference has expanded its exhibitor list, diversified its product and service offerings, and curated an engaging program filled with informative sessions and competitions designed to highlight local talent while addressing training and upskilling needs.

Whether you are a hotelier, hospitality expert, supplier, or an enthusiast for tourism, it’s essential to participate in HOTEC 2024 to witness the evolving directions of this competitive industry.

The festivities will kick off on October 23 with the HOTEC Welcome Networking Cocktail, co-hosted by the ACT and NSW governments alongside Pacific Trade Invest Australia. This event will not only feature exquisite Australian food and beverages but also provide a platform for connecting with new suppliers and peers.

The official opening on October 24 will feature the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, as the Chief Guest. Attendees can look forward to the HOTEC Barista Competition Finals, showcasing exceptional local barista talent. The first information session on that day will focus on creating thriving and inclusive communities, addressing compliant working conditions and local employment opportunities in the tourism sector.

Later in the day, a session on fostering a prosperous visitor economy will explore taxation responsibilities and the use of digital tools to improve market reach, emphasizing the benefits of local sourcing.

Day One will culminate with another Networking Cocktail, providing a relaxed environment for attendees to exchange ideas and foster potential collaborations.

Day Two, October 25, will feature the HOTEC Chef and Cocktail competition finals, showcasing creativity and skill from the finest chefs and mixologists in the region. An information session later that morning will delve into sustainable resource management and maintaining environmental purity crucial for thriving tourism businesses. The conference will address the importance of responsibly managing visits to cultural sites and indigenous communities in the final session of the day.

Following two remarkable days, HOTEC 2024 will conclude with the Gala Awards Night, an evening to celebrate industry excellence and shared accomplishments, filled with recognition and inspiration.

These highlights merely scratch the surface of activities scheduled for HOTEC, and additional details can be found on the FHTA website. Attending HOTEC 2024 offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with industry experts, exhibitors, and government representatives, paving the way for growth and collaboration.

To ensure smooth transportation for attendees and exhibitors, arrangements are in place to facilitate easy movement throughout the event, even for those traveling from distant locations. Shuttle services will also be available for accommodations outside the venue.

Participants are encouraged to engage in meaningful discussions, gain insights from leading figures in the industry, and discover strategies to enhance their operations. The conference aims to propel the tourism industry forward.
