The arrival of a fiber boat and engine may appear minor to some, but for the students, parents, and teachers at Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it signifies a monumental improvement in their community.
This milestone was achieved when the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, visited Yasayasa Moala to inspect local schools. He was joined by officials from various ministries during this important visit.
Remarkably, Mr. Radrodro is the first Minister for Education to set foot in Totoya in over half a century.
Emotions ran high as Navesi Primary School’s head teacher, Seru Luvu, expressed the importance of the boat to the school. “It is long overdue. We have been asking for it for a long time, and finally receiving it is overwhelming. Now, we won’t need to rely on others for transportation to take our students to the health center,” he shared.
He recounted how past requests for a boat were met with harsh responses, often being told they could use one if it was available for free. “Today marks a memorable occasion for us as it alleviates the embarrassment we have faced in the past,” Luvu added. He assured that the school would take great care of the boat and mentioned they had also received life jackets for the students.
Mr. Radrodro advised Luvu to ensure the proper maintenance of the boat, emphasizing that it should only be operated by a licensed driver and used as intended.
