Approximately 300 students currently learning in temporary tents in Vanua Levu are expected to return to their new classrooms by the end of 2025, as per Assistant Education Minister Iliesa Vanawalu.
Vanawalu confirmed that funding has been allocated in the budget for the reconstruction of three schools that were impacted by cyclones. He stated, “We are in the process of finalizing the remaining work for this year and into 2025.”
In a recent interview, he mentioned that a feasibility study concerning the three schools has been completed. The minister emphasized that the priority of the ministry is to ensure that the schools provide adequate and safe learning environments for all students.
While he did not provide a specific completion date for the reconstruction efforts, he expressed optimism that all children would be back in their classrooms before the end of next year.
