The delivery of a fiber boat and engine to Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, may seem like a minor achievement to some, but for the students, parents, and educators at the school, it represents a significant milestone. This development was made possible by the visit of the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, to schools in Yasayasa Moala.
Accompanied by officials from various ministries, Mr. Radrodro made history as the first Minister for Education to visit Totoya in over five decades. The head teacher of Navesi Primary School, Seru Luvu, expressed his heartfelt emotions regarding the importance of the boat for the school.
“It is long overdue. We have been requesting this for a long time, and receiving it today is truly emotional. We will no longer need to ask others for a boat to transport students to the health center,” Mr. Luvu said. He recalled instances where they had made requests for a boat only to be met with harsh responses or told that they could use one if it were free. He emphasized that this day would be memorable as it frees them from future embarrassment.
Mr. Luvu assured that they would take great care of the boat to ensure its longevity, noting that they had also received life jackets for the students. In response, Mr. Radrodro urged Mr. Luvu to properly maintain the boat and to ensure that only a licensed operator uses it, emphasizing its intended purpose.
