The arrival of a fibreglass boat and engine has brought immense joy to the students, parents, and teachers of Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau. This significant gift was made possible through a visit by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro to Yasayasa Moala, where he toured several schools along with representatives from various ministries.
Notably, Mr. Radrodro is the first Education Minister to visit Totoya in over five decades, making this event particularly meaningful. Head teacher Seru Luvu expressed deep emotions regarding the impact of the boat on the school community. He shared, “It is long overdue. We have been asking for it for a long time, and to finally receive it is just emotional. Now we don’t have to request a boat from others to take students to the health center.”
Mr. Luvu recounted past struggles when their requests for a boat were met with indifference or rudeness, stating, “There were times when we asked for a boat, and they would speak harshly to us or say that if it were free, we could use it. Today will be a day we will always remember because we will not face any embarrassment in the future.”
He assured that the boat will be well cared for, emphasizing the importance of maintaining it to ensure its longevity and noting that they have also received life jackets for the students. In response, Mr. Radrodro urged Mr. Luvu to maintain the boat diligently and ensure that only a licensed driver operates it, stressing that it should be used for its intended purpose.
