Hope Afloat: Navesi Primary School Receives Long-Awaited Boat and Engine

Students, parents, and teachers at Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, are celebrating the arrival of a fiber boat and engine, a development that holds great significance for the community. This milestone was achieved through a visit from the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, who was on a tour of schools in Yasayasa Moala, accompanied by representatives from various ministries.

Notably, Mr. Radrodro is the first Minister for Education to visit Totoya in more than 50 years. Head teacher of Navesi Primary School, Seru Luvu, expressed deep emotion when reflecting on the importance of the new boat for the school.

“It is long overdue. We have been asking for it for a long time, and to finally receive it is just emotional. Now we don’t have to ask others for a boat when we need to take any of the students to the health center,” Mr. Luvu stated. He recalled instances when requests for a boat were met with harsh responses, emphasizing that this day would be remembered fondly because it alleviates future embarrassment.

He also mentioned a commitment to maintaining the boat properly to ensure its longevity, noting that they received life jackets for the students as well. Mr. Radrodro reminded Mr. Luvu of the importance of proper maintenance and emphasized that the boat should be operated by a licensed driver and used as intended.
