At a recent ceremony held in Labasa, officers of the Fiji Police Force were honored with awards including the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and Fiji Police Overseas Medal. Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, who began his career in the Northern Division, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of service and dedication.
During his address, the Acting Commissioner praised the officers for their commitment and resilience, especially when faced with the challenges of providing services in remote and isolated areas. He acknowledged the significant changes in the criminal landscape compared to his earlier days in service.
He emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing available resources while advocating for increased staffing and funding to better serve the community. Chew expressed confidence in the officers’ dedication to their roles and their commitment to safeguarding Fiji.
The ceremony also recognized the broader impact of the police’s contributions to national security, which is vital for economic stability. Udit Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, reported $3.1 billion in revenue, attributing part of this achievement to the officers’ efforts in maintaining safety.
Chew urged the officers to continue working diligently, regardless of recognition, stressing the value of their contributions. In total, eleven officers received the Fiji Police Medal, forty-four were awarded the Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and nine received the Fiji Police Overseas Medal.
