Law enforcement officials are intensifying their efforts to combat illegal drug activities as the festive season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has made it clear that the police will be closely monitoring individuals suspected of drug-related offenses. “We are targeting anyone suspected of drugs,” he stated, underscoring the seriousness of their operations.

During this busy holiday period, police will conduct checks at known drug hotspots, along with inspecting suspicious vehicles and vessels. ACP Driu noted that drug-related arrests are happening on a daily basis as part of their proactive approach to tackling the illicit drug trade.

In a recent incident at the Nadonumai roundabout in Lami, near Suva, police stopped a vehicle for a routine check. The driver allegedly threatened an officer, leading to further scrutiny. With the help of the K-9 Unit, authorities discovered a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves believed to be marijuana. A subsequent search at the suspect’s home revealed additional loose dried leaves thought to be marijuana. The suspect is currently in custody at the Lami Police Station for ongoing investigations.

ACP Driu reinforced that this operation is just one of many that the police are conducting to address drug-related issues during the festive season. He also called on the community to stand with the police in their relentless fight against drugs, emphasizing that public support is crucial to their efforts.

The police’s heightened vigilance not only aims to reduce drug offenses but also helps in keeping communities safe, particularly during a time when social gatherings increase. As there is a collective responsibility to maintain a drug-free environment, community involvement can make a significant difference.

In summary, police operations targeting drug activities are ramping up as the festive season unfolds, with a focus on maintaining public safety and combating the illegal drug trade.
