Holiday Delays Decision on Pryde’s Controversial Report

Spread the love

The review of the Tribunal’s report concerning suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, will be delayed due to the ongoing holiday season, according to a statement from the Office of the President. President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu plans to thoroughly examine the report, consult with officials, and seek necessary advice before making a decision. However, the Christmas and New Year holidays have resulted in some officials being unavailable, impacting the timeline for the review.

The President’s office acknowledged the need to release the report to the public in accordance with section 112(6) of the Constitution of Fiji. Once officials return from their holiday break, the President intends to finalize his evaluation and ensure the report is disclosed as required.

The Tribunal, responsible for investigating allegations of misconduct against Pryde, consists of a three-member panel, with Justice Anare Tuilevuka serving as chair, alongside Justices Chaitanya Lakshman and Samuela Qica.

This situation highlights the importance of due process and careful consideration in such significant matters, even in periods of holiday respite. The eventual release of the findings will shed light on the issues at hand and contribute to transparency and accountability in governance.

In summary, while the holiday season has caused delays in the review process, it allows for a comprehensive examination, which is essential for the credibility of the outcomes. This delay ultimately serves to ensure that the involved parties are appropriately consulted, and the report is adequately reviewed before it is made public.
