The Health Ministry reported that HIV has resulted in 13 deaths from January to June of this year, alongside 552 new HIV cases identified during the same timeframe. This marks an increase compared to 82 deaths last year and 49 fatalities in 2022.

The ministry is urging the public, especially young individuals, to avoid engaging in high-risk behaviors that elevate their chances of contracting HIV. These behaviors include using injectable drugs and sharing needles, having unprotected sex with multiple partners, as well as participating in chemsex activities.

Importantly, the ministry emphasized that HIV is not considered a death sentence. With proper treatment, individuals living with HIV can continue to lead normal lives. The ministry encourages everyone, particularly those at higher risk, to get tested and understand their HIV status. For those who have tested positive for HIV, seeking prompt treatment and adhering to the treatment regimen is strongly advised.
