HIV Deaths Surge: What You Need to Know Now

The Health Ministry has reported that HIV has resulted in 13 deaths from January to June this year, along with 552 new cases during the same timeframe. In contrast, the previous year recorded 82 deaths and 49 fatalities in 2022.

The ministry is urging the public, especially young individuals, to avoid high-risk behaviors that heighten their chances of contracting HIV. These risky activities include the use of injectable drugs, sharing needles, having unprotected sex with multiple partners, engaging in “bluethoothing,” and participating in chemsex.

It is essential to recognize that HIV is not a death sentence. With the right treatment, individuals living with HIV can lead normal lives and participate fully in everyday activities. The ministry encourages everyone, particularly those involved in high-risk activities, to get tested for HIV and understand their status. Those who test positive are advised to seek timely treatment and adhere to their treatment regimen closely.
