HIV Crisis: 13 Lives Lost Already This Year

HIV has resulted in 13 deaths from January to June of this year, according to a statement from the Health Ministry, which also reported 552 new cases during this period.

In contrast, there were 82 deaths last year and 49 fatalities in 2022.

The ministry is urging the public, particularly young individuals, to avoid high-risk behaviors that can lead to HIV transmission. These include the use of injectable drugs and sharing needles, having unprotected sex with multiple partners, engaging in bluethoothing, and participating in chemsex activities.

Importantly, the ministry emphasizes that HIV is not a death sentence, as individuals living with the virus can lead fulfilling lives with appropriate treatment.

The ministry advises everyone, especially those in high-risk categories, to get tested and understand their HIV status. They also encourage individuals who test positive for HIV to seek treatment promptly and adhere to their treatment regimen.
