HIV Alert: Rising Deaths and New Cases Spark Health Concerns

According to a statement from the Health Ministry, HIV has resulted in 13 deaths from January to June of this year, with 552 new cases reported during the same timeframe. This marks a significant increase compared to previous years, with 82 deaths recorded last year and 49 in 2022.

The ministry is strongly advising the public, especially young individuals, to avoid high-risk behaviors that can lead to HIV transmission. Dangerous activities include the use of injectable drugs, sharing needles, engaging in unprotected sex with multiple partners, and participating in chemsex.

It is essential for the public to understand that HIV does not equate to a death sentence. With proper treatment, individuals living with HIV can maintain a normal lifestyle. The ministry urges those who are at high risk to get tested and understand their HIV status. Additionally, individuals who test positive for HIV are encouraged to seek treatment promptly and adhere to their treatment plans consistently.
