Historic Visit Brings Lifeline to Remote School

The arrival of a fiber boat and engine might appear trivial to some, but for the students, parents, and teachers of Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it is incredibly significant.

This milestone was achieved during a visit by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro to Yasayasa Moala to tour schools, accompanied by representatives from various ministries.

Mr. Radrodro’s visit marks the first time in over 50 years that a Minister for Education has come to Totoya.

The head teacher of Navesi Primary School, Seru Luvu, expressed deep emotion when discussing the importance of the boat to the school. He noted, “This is long overdue. We have been requesting it for a long time, and to finally receive it is simply emotional. We won’t have to rely on others anymore when we need to transport students to the health center.”

He reflected on past difficulties stating, “There were times we asked for a boat, and we received harsh responses or were told that if it were free, we could use it. Today is a day we will always remember as we will no longer face embarrassment in the future.”

Mr. Luvu pledged to ensure the boat is well-maintained for longevity and mentioned that they also received life jackets for the students.

Minister Radrodro advised Mr. Luvu to keep the boat in good condition and ensure that it is operated only by a licensed driver, emphasizing that it should be used according to the purpose for which it was granted.
