Historic Victory: Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School Tops Fiji Mathematics Competition

Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Primary School achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) for Year Eight for the first time this year. The school’s team, which included Danish Prasad, Aarav Chand, Taniska Lal, and Ishita Lata, excelled by answering 20 questions in just 31 minutes during the event held at the Latter-Day Saints Church in Tamavua, Suva, last Saturday.

Team leader and head girl Taniska expressed confidence in their abilities, highlighting their previous success as winners of the Year Eight category in the Northern Zone competition. “We dedicated around four weeks to preparation, with valuable support from our teachers, Kamlesh Karan and Ashweeni Dutt,” Ms. Lal noted.

The competition featured 14 schools from across Fiji, and Taniska emphasized the significance of their achievement in securing the overall win. School head teacher Rajesh Kumar extended his gratitude to the school manager, parents, teachers, and the families of other students for their collective efforts in fundraising to ensure the team could travel to Suva for the competition.

“It is the first time Year Eight students have reached such a high level, and bringing the top trophy home is a blessing in itself,” Mr. Kumar stated. He also underscored the school’s commitment to fostering holistic development, noting that competitions like this inspire other students to recognize their strengths and strive for excellence in their studies.
