Historic Cadet Parade Marks New Era for Koro High School

Koro High School held its inaugural Cadet Pass Out Parade on Friday, marking a significant milestone fifty-four years after the school’s founding.

The parade was presided over by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, who emphasized the occasion’s importance to the local community, bringing together residents to celebrate the students’ achievements and future prospects.

Chew acknowledged the typical practice of having a distinguished guest review the parade but opted to recognize the cadets, their parents, the community, and teachers instead. “You are our special guests, as you have opened the doors to the Fiji Police Force to work collaboratively with you in empowering the students of Koro High through this Cadet training,” he stated.

Addressing concerns regarding youth involvement in crime, Chew offered some parental advice. He explained that while he could discuss crime statistics all day, true change comes from the level of discipline individuals possess. “Those who embrace discipline can shape the future. Every life moment is influenced by the choices we make, which are determined by self-discipline and attitude,” he said.

After being informed about discipline issues at the school, he urged students to make positive changes before it’s too late. “If you’ve had conflicts with the principal or teachers, remember it’s not too late to change. Learn from your mistakes, and focus on developing the discipline to make the right choices for your future,” he advised.

Chew also addressed parents, guardians, and community members, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing children’s safety and well-being. “Our children are our greatest investment. I appeal to you, not just as the Acting Commissioner of Police, but as a father, to cherish your time with them. They will eventually forge their own paths, so be a trusted source of guidance by spending quality time with them.”

He concluded by highlighting the importance of creating a safe environment for children, urging the community to work together to ensure their today is secure, allowing them to grow into their full potential.
