The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, the largest Hindu organization in the country, has called on its members to dedicate up to 15 minutes each day to address the critical issue of drug abuse. This initiative aligns with the celebrations of the birth of Lord Krishna, known as Krishna Janmashtami, taking place both in Fiji and globally.
Dhirendra Nand, the national president of the Sabha, emphasized the necessity of community education and awareness regarding drug abuse. He stated, “As part of this sacred observance, we encourage all mandali and mandirs celebrating this occasion to allocate 10-15 minutes after their regular programs to focus on the important issue of drug abuse.”
This effort is aimed at highlighting the risks of drug use and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Nand expressed optimism that through united action and spiritual direction, the community can guide its youth toward a more promising future.
Additionally, Mr. Nand urged devotees to incorporate special prayers for the Hindu community suffering in Bangladesh during this time. He said, “Let us come together to pray for their well-being, safety, and justice. May the blessings of Lord Krishna bring peace and protection to those facing difficulties.”
The week-long celebration commenced on Tuesday, August 20, and Mr. Nand encouraged all Sanatan members to actively participate in prayers and engage in this week dedicated to devotion and social advocacy. The Krishna Janmashtami festivities will conclude on Monday, August 26.
