The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, has announced that her office is nearing the conclusion of vetting two significant cases.

The first case involves the misappropriation of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union, along with allegations of misconduct by high-ranking officials within the Fiji Police Force. These claims were initially brought to light by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a special meeting at the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year. Tikoisuva explained that the case has been under the scrutiny of a prosecution officer at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Tikoisuva emphasized the importance of thoroughness in their review process. “We are conducting final checks and ensuring that multiple people have examined the case to uncover any potential oversights,” she stated. The findings related to this case are set to be finalized by Friday, November 29.

Additionally, Tikoisuva reported that the findings of the investigation into a tragic Ferris wheel accident, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman during the 2023 Fiji Showcase at the Vodafone Arena carpark, are expected to be released before the same date. “It is crucial to conduct a comprehensive investigation into these important cases before taking further action,” she noted. After the review concludes, the report will undergo additional vetting by another prosecutor before being forwarded to Tikoisuva for her approval.

In summary, these cases represent a significant step in upholding accountability and transparency within the Fiji Police Force and ensuring justice for individuals affected by tragic incidents. The commitment of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to a thorough investigative process is a positive signal toward establishing integrity within public institutions.
