The Suva Magistrates Court is expected to make a decision today regarding a bail variation request submitted by former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum last week.
Last Friday, Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza declined to intervene in the case against Sayed-Khaiyum, which is being overseen by her brother, Magistrate Yogesh Prasad.
On Thursday, Sayed-Khaiyum was taken to the hospital while experiencing severe pain, with assistance from his aide and brother, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Sayed-Khaiyum faces charges alongside former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former Health Minister Dr. Neil Sharma. They are accused of failing to adhere to statutory tender requirements as set out in the 2010 Procurement Regulation.
Bainimarama is charged with one count of abuse of office. Sayed-Khaiyum faces one count of abuse of office and another for obstructing justice. Sharma is charged with two counts of abuse of office and two counts of breach of trust as a Public Service employee.
The case has been postponed until 12:30 p.m. today, and Sayed-Khaiyum is required to present himself in court.
