Navua’s head coach, Saiyad Ali, is focusing on the critical upcoming Extra Premier League (EPL) match against current leaders Labasa this weekend. Despite being unable to play last week due to Rewa’s unavailability, Ali recognizes the competitive edge Labasa has gained by consistently participating in matches.
“The weather has not been favorable, impacting our preparation,” Ali stated. He acknowledges that Labasa has been able to maintain their momentum and may be better prepared for this pivotal game. However, Navua remains determined, with plans to resume training this week to make sure they are ready for the encounter.
With both teams currently undefeated in the league, the stakes are high, as the outcome could shift the standings significantly. “The winner of this game could ascend to the top, affecting the rankings of other teams like Nadi and Rewa,” he added.
Navua, however, faces challenges of its own, with several key players unavailable. Filipe Baravilala, Sairusi Nalaubu, Zainal Ali, and Thomas Dunn have moved to clubs abroad, and with the national team competing in New Zealand, it has left gaps in the roster. Two additional players are also recovering from injuries. “We have a squad of 20 to 25 players, and this situation offers an opportunity for those who have been on the bench to prove themselves,” said Ali.
The match against Labasa is scheduled for this Sunday at 3 PM at the Uprising Sports Centre, promising to be a critical showdown with considerable implications for league standings.
In related EPL fixtures, Tavua FC will host Lautoka at Gravey Park, and Nasinu FC will challenge Nadi FC at King Charles Park, with both matches kicking off at 3 PM on Sunday. The growing competitiveness in the league underscores its vibrancy, offering fans a thrilling season filled with surprises.
