Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is set to appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court today, facing multiple charges that include abuse of office, breach of trust, and illegal possession of firearms on aircraft.
Sayed-Khaiyum is specifically charged with 11 counts of unlawful carriage of a firearm on an aircraft, 11 counts of receiving a corrupt benefit, 11 counts of breach of trust by a public servant, and 11 counts of abuse of office.
The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, has approved these charges against Sayed-Khaiyum, as well as against Shaenaz Voss, former Executive General of Corporate Affairs at Fiji Airways, and Sharun Ali, General Manager of Safety, Security, and Quality at Fiji Airways, along with Fiji Airlines operating as Fiji Link.
Shaenaz Voss faces three counts of providing a corrupt benefit, while Sharun Ali has been charged with 11 counts of the same offense. Furthermore, Voss, Ali, and Fiji Airlines T/A Fiji Link are also charged with five counts related to failing to report security occurrences and three counts of violating airline security regulations.
All charges are made under the Civil Aviation (Security) Act 1994, the Civil Aviation (Security) Regulations 1994, and the Crimes Act 2009. The accused individuals are expected to be presented in court this afternoon.
