High-Profile Firearms Scandal Hits Former Officials and Executives

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former high-ranking government official and two senior executives in connection with the illegal transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa stated that the former official faces multiple charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving corrupt benefits, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two former senior executives are charged with providing corrupt benefits to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and violating the aircraft company’s security program.

Additionally, the company involved is being held responsible for not complying with its aircraft security program and for its failure to report security occurrences as mandated.

The three individuals are scheduled to appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
