Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and former Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem are scheduled to appear again in the Suva Magistrate’s Court on August 27.
The two faced Magistrate Joji Boseiwaqa in court yesterday. During the previous session, Magistrate Yogesh Prasad postponed the case to decide on the consolidation of charges and to hear the State’s response to Mr. Saneem’s motion to dismiss the charges. However, Mr. Prasad’s court was not in session due to a scheduled workshop.
It is alleged that while serving as Prime Minister two years ago, Mr. Sayed-Khaiyum signed a Deed of Variation and Addendum involving the former FijiFirst government and Mr. Saneem, which authorized a payment to Mr. Saneem without the necessary approval from the Constitutional Offices Commission.
Mr. Saneem is also facing charges of receiving a corrupt benefit amounting to $55,944.03 in deductible relief for his back pay from Mr. Sayed-Khaiyum.
Bail has been extended for both individuals.
