The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two senior executives in connection with the unlawful carrying of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa, the former official faces charges including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving a corrupt benefit, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.
The two former executives are charged with offering a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and violating the aircraft company’s security protocols.
ACP Waqa confirmed that the company involved is also being held accountable for its lack of compliance with aircraft security regulations and mandatory reporting procedures.
The three individuals are expected to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
