The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former high-ranking government official and two senior executives in connection with the illegal transportation of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the former official faces multiple charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, and receiving a corrupt benefit, in addition to unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.
The two former executives have been charged with offering a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and violating compliance with the aircraft company’s Security Programme.
Furthermore, ACP Waqa confirmed that the aircraft company is also being held accountable for non-compliance with its security protocols and the mandatory reporting of security incidents.
All three individuals are scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
