High-Profile Charges in Shocking Air Security Scandal

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former high-ranking government official and two senior executives related to the illegal transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa announced that the former government official faces several charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust by a public servant, receiving corrupt benefits, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two senior executives are charged with offering corrupt benefits to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and violating their company’s aircraft security program.

ACP Waqa also mentioned that the company involved is being held responsible for not adhering to its aircraft security protocols and for failing to report security incidents as mandated.

The three individuals are scheduled to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, along with a representative from the aircraft company.
