A former senior government official and two ex-senior executives have been charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition during a domestic flight. According to a police statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved the charges against the three individuals.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, indicated that the former senior government official faces several charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust by a public service employee, receiving a corrupt benefit, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.
The two former senior executives are each charged with offering a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security events as required, and violating the aircraft company’s security program compliance.
ACP Waqa also noted that the airline is being held responsible for not adhering to its security program and for the failure to report security incidents as mandated.
