High-Profile Charges in Alleged Air Security Scandal

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two senior executives related to the illegal transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa stated that the former senior government official faces multiple charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving a corrupt benefit, and unlawfully carrying firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two former senior executives have been charged with offenses including providing a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security occurrences as required, and violating the aircraft company’s Security Programme.

The Assistant Commissioner also noted that the aircraft company is being held accountable for its noncompliance with security protocols and mandatory reporting regulations.

All three individuals are set to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court today, along with a representative from the aircraft company.
