The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two high-ranking executives related to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition during a domestic flight.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, announced that the former government official faces multiple charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust, receiving a corrupt benefit, and the unlawful transport of firearms and ammunition aboard an aircraft.
The two executives have been charged with offenses related to providing a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and not complying with the aircraft company’s Security Programme.
Additionally, the aircraft company is being held responsible for violations concerning its security protocols and mandatory reporting.
The three individuals are scheduled to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
