High-Profile Charges Emerge in Airport Firearms Scandal

The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two senior executives related to the illegal transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa, the former government official faces multiple charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving a corrupt benefit, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two former executives are charged with providing a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security incidents, and violating the aircraft company’s security program requirements.

Additionally, the Assistant Commissioner stated that the company involved will also be held accountable for not complying with its aircraft security protocols and failing to report security occurrences as required.

All three individuals, along with a representative from the aircraft company, are scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
