High-Flying Scandal: Former Officials Charged with Gun Crimes on Domestic Flights

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former senior government official and two senior executives in connection with the illegal transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa announced that the former government official faces charges including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving a corrupt benefit, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on an aircraft.

The two former senior executives have been charged with offering a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and not complying with the aircraft company’s Security Programme.

Additionally, the company involved is being held responsible for violations of aircraft security compliance and mandatory reporting.

All three individuals are scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court today, accompanied by a representative from the aircraft company.
