High-Flying Scandal: Charges Filed Against Ex-Government Officials for Firearms on Flights

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a former high-ranking government official and two senior executives related to the illegal transport of firearms and ammunition on a domestic flight.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the former government official faces multiple charges, including abuse of office, breach of trust as a public servant, receiving corrupt benefits, and unlawful carriage of firearms and ammunition on aircraft.

The two executives have been charged with providing a corrupt benefit to a public official, failing to report security incidents as required, and not adhering to the aircraft company’s security program.

Additionally, the aircraft company itself is being held responsible for not complying with the required security protocols and for the failure to report security occurrences.

The three individuals are set to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today, alongside a representative from the aircraft company.
