High Court to Decide Vijendra Prakash’s Fate Next Week

The High Court is set to hear a motion to dismiss the case against former FijiFirst Member of Parliament Vijendra Prakash next Thursday.

The case was brought before High Court Judge Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu today. Although the hearing was originally scheduled for today, Siddharth Nandan, the counsel handling the case, was absent, and Jagath Karunaratne appeared on his behalf. Karunaratne requested the court to reschedule the hearing to Thursday.

Yovin Naidu represented the Office of the Attorney-General, while Seini Fotofei appeared for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The High Court granted the request to postpone the hearing and instructed all parties to submit their documents by September 4.

Last year, Prakash was convicted of unlawfully acquiring $33,670 in parliamentary allowances after an eight-week trial. He faces charges from FICAC for providing false information to a public servant and obtaining financial advantage. The hearing will continue next Thursday at 2:30 pm.
