The High Court is set to hear the request to dismiss the case against former FijiFirst Member of Parliament, Vijendra Prakash, next Thursday. The hearing was initially scheduled for today but was postponed after Counsel Siddharth Nandan was absent. Instead, lawyer Jagath Karunaratne appeared on his behalf and requested a rescheduling to Thursday.
The Office of the Attorney-General was represented by Yovin Naidu, while Seini Fotofei appeared for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The High Court approved the request and instructed all parties to submit their documents by September 4.
Last year, Prakash was found guilty of unlawfully obtaining $33,670 in parliamentary allowances following an eight-week trial. He faced charges from FICAC for providing false information to a public servant and for obtaining a financial advantage. The case has now been adjourned to next Thursday at 2:30 PM for further proceedings.
